TRAU FC vs Chennaiyin FC: Build-up

Local side TRAU FC must win on Thursday over Chennayin FC, if they have to harbour hopes of progressing to the next stage as they end their group engagements. Chennayin FC have a game over Neroca as their last engagement and if they can avoid a loss to TRAU, a win in that last game can still see them through as the second team in the group.

Much will depend on Chennayin FC’s midfield linchpin Anirudh Thapa who has been key to Chennayin’s results. TRAU FC will be buoyed by their come-from-behind win against the Army Red in their previous game. With support in the stands for the local side and with so much at stake, it promises to be an exciting clash.

As things stand in Group C, Chennaiyin FC sit at the bottom of the group. The Marina Machans are yet to win a game after two matches and have only a point. Their opponents TRAU FC are at third with three points from as many matches.

With Hyderabad FC already qualifying as group leaders from Group C, the remaining four teams - Neroca, TRAU, Army Red and Chennaiyin FC - are playing for the second spot. Neroca currently sit second with four points after three matches.

TRAU FC, who play their final match today, must beat Chennaiyin FC and then hope Thomas Brdaric's side beat Neroca in their final game. For Chennaiyin FC the equation is clear, win both their remaining matches and qualify for the knockouts. If CFC lose today, they will be out of contention for the Durand Cup 2022 quarterfinals.
