10. Overhead kick goal against Czech Republic (Uruguay)
Edinson Cavani has scored many spectacular goals at the international level for Uruguay. One of the best goals he has scored was an overhead kick against the Czech Republic in an international friendly three years ago. The striker was alone in the box with ample space but chose to acrobatically hit an overhead kick which flew into the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper shell-shocked. Such precision is only possible because of his confidence in front of the goal.
9. Bicycle kick goal against Ecuador (Uruguay)
The audacious overhead kick is not the only acrobatic finish from Cavani’s international heroics. He scored a similar goal against Ecuador back in 2019 during the Copa America. In a thumping 4-0 win, Cavani scored the second goal by executing a bicycle kick while connecting with a cross from the right flank. The strike remains a highlight of his international career because of the ease with which Cavani managed to hit the ball. This was his 47th international goal and first in Copa America.
8. Brace in the French League Cup final against Lyon (Paris Saint-Germain)
Cavani won plenty of trophies with PSG and one of his first silverware with the French outfit was the Coupe de la Ligue. This was the first season with the Ligue 1 outfit and Cavani helped the team win three domestic trophies. Facing Olympique Lyonnais, Cavani scored both goals for PSG in a 2-1 win. He was the difference-maker in that fixture and would go on to win over 22 trophies with the Parisians because of his incredible consistency.
7. First goal for Paris Saint-Germain
Cavani left Italy to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2013-14, winning three trophies in the first year. His first goal for the club came against AC Ajaccio in Ligue 1. That was the start of something special as there was no stopping the Uruguayan from that point onwards. He scored goals for fun for PSG season after season. He is their all-time leading goalscorer with 200 goals with Zlatan Ibrahimovic second on the list with 156 goals.
6. Goal in his international debut (Uruguay)
Representing one's country in football is a dream for every football player. Few of them realise this dream and even fewer score on their international debut. However, Cavani is one of the players who managed to score on his international debut against Colombia in 2008. Fast forward 12 years, because of his striking prowess, Cavani has 53 goals in 126 international matches.
5. First goal for Manchester United
Edinson Cavani’s first goal for Manchester United against Everton in a 3-1 win was a glimpse ahead of great things to come. The club was desperate for a lethal finisher and Cavani’s first-time strike, beating England international Jordan Pickford effortlessly was the perfect start to his life at the club. The striker would go on to score 10 goals in the league that year and became an indispensable part of the team’s success.
4. The winner against Southampton (Manchester United)
Edinson Cavani is loved at Manchester United for many reasons and one of them was his exceptional brace against Southampton. Losing 2-0 at halftime, Cavani’s introduction from the bench was the turning point in the fixture. The striker set up the first goal for Bruno Fernandes, scoured the equaliser and the winner with his head to help the team win a record-breaking eighth consecutive away game. The diving header deep in the dying stages of the match made him an instant hit with the fans.

3. UEFA Europa League final against Villareal (Manchester United)
Manchester United reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in the 2020-21 season. Cavani was in red hot form, scoring six goals and providing three assists in merely five appearances. One of his key goals was the equaliser against Villareal in the final of the competition. The strike helped the Red Devils take the tie to the penalties which they lost by 11-10 eventually. Cavani scored from the spot as well.
2. Superb solo goal against Bastia (Paris Saint-Germain)
A superb solo goal against Bastia is one of Cavani’s most iconic goals. He came on as a substitute, replacing Ibrahimovic and got on the scoresheet by dribbling past Bastia players, taking the ball around the goalkeeper and finishing with immense composure from a tight angle. His exceptional dribbling skills and composure in front of goal earned him the title of “El Matador”.

Edinson Cavani is known for being lethal inside the penalty area. However, in his first game at Old Trafford with fans in attendance, Cavani showed his incredible shooting range and accuracy. The striker got on the end of a direct goal-kick from David De Gea and chipped an advanced Alphonse Areola from nearly 40-yards out. The strike was a contender for the goal of the season.
