Liverpool may face Carabao Cup expulsion as EFL opens investigation
The Reds may have fielded an ineligible in the Carabao cup tie against MK Dons.
In what comes out to be the shocking news, the EFL has launched an investigation against Liverpool for fielding an ineligible player. English Sports media outlet The Athletic claims that "may not have satisfied the registration criteria to feature in the competition".
However, the potentially ineligible player hasn’t been named but if Liverpool is found to be guilty they may face a fine or expulsion from the EFL club competition.
EFL rules state that a player must be 'registered and eligible to participate in a Premier League match commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Competition match in accordance with the Premier League rule. If, the players temporary registered then the rules state that “Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the club holding his full registration gives its written consent.”
The unnamed Liverpool spokesperson said, “The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players. We are working with the relevant authorities in order to establish the facts of the matter and will be making no further comment until this process is complete”
Liverpool won the game 2-0 against the lowly League One side as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gave full debuts to Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Ki-Jana Hoever who scored the goal, while Herbie Kane, Pedro Chirivella and Sepp van den Berg all came off the bench later in the match.
Liverpool were set to play Arsenal at the Anfield for the fourth round tie at Anfield but now, it depends on the verdict of the EFL. Sunderland faced a similar situation in 2014 when they escaped with just a fine after fielding Ji Dong-Won against MK Dons.

If Liverpool are found to be guilty they’ll be more than happy to escape it with a fine. Amidst the controversy, Liverpool are set for an away clash against Sheffield United in the Premier League where they’ll be hoping to maintain their 100% record intact.
