Rice & Saka - England injury news ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final vs Argentina

England will face Argentina in the semifinal on July 15.
England defeated Norway 2-1 in a close battle that lasted for 120 minutes at the Miami Stadium to secure a spot in the last four of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In the semifinals, they will lock horns against defending champions Argentina, whose World Cup has been quite controversial, courtesy of their last two knockout games.
Thomas Tuchel is currently on a mission to become the first foreign manager to guide a team to World Cup triumph, and he’s just two wins away from doing something that has never happened before. However, the Three Lions would be expected to play their best football in the remaining games.
The English players would also have to recover from the gruelling, physically demanding quarterfinal game against their European rivals. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have been the top scorers for the Three Lions in the tournament, bagging six goals each.
Both of them are also only one goal away from scripting history and becoming the top scorer for England in a single campaign. However, they have been playing constantly since the start, with little rest.
Apart from the two scorers, a few players, who have been playing for the side since the start, are also under injury woes. Thus, let’s take a look at the injury update from Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of their semi-final clash.

England injury update ahead of FIFA World Cup semifinal clash against Argentina

Declan Rice: The former West Ham United star was subbed out at halftime against Norway. Later, in the post-match interview, Thomas Tuchel revealed that Declan Rice’s recent illness and cramps influenced his decision to substitute him. However, he’s likely to return to the starting XI against Argentina. Rice also missed two training sessions before the Norway match.
Ezri Konsa: Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, who has played as a fullback as well as a centre-back for the Three Lions, suffered a significant injury in the Miami heat and suffered from cramps in his hamstring. Nevertheless, he remains a crucial part of England’s backline, and his situation will be monitored for the coming couple of days.
Reece James: After suffering a major injury setback in the group stage game against Ghana on matchday 2 of the tournament, the Chelsea star made a timely comeback for the Three Lions. Reece James played 49 minutes against Norway, but Tuchel will remain cautious with him given his history of recurring muscular setbacks.
Jordan Henderson: The former Liverpool captain participated in England’s pre-match warm-up before the Norway game despite his wrist injury. However, he will continue his recovery from wrist surgery.
Bukayo Saka: Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has primarily played as a second-half substitute for Thomas Tuchel’s side. And most probably, he will continue to do that because, due to fitness restrictions, he is unlikely to play the whole game for the side.
Apart from these players, who are suffering from fitness concerns, Jarell Quansah will be out due to his two-match suspension.
