England have played only one FIFA World Cup final.

England have enjoyed a bittersweet journey in the FIFA World Cup. They are among the few nations to have won the tournament; however, their only triumph came almost six decades ago. Since then, they have failed to secure a title despite coming close on several occasions.

In the last 60 years, they have reached the semifinals on three occasions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In 1990, they lost to West Germany on penalties, and in 2018, they came up short against Croatia.

In 2026, they are set to face defending champions Argentina. However, in order to reach the knockout stage of a tournament, scoring goals becomes crucial and here is the list of England’s top five Goalscorers at a single FIFA World Cup:

5. Geoff Hurst: 4 goals

The Three Lions’ hero for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, Geoff Hurst, scored four goals in three games to help England win their maiden and only title in the tournament’s history.

Geoff Hurst, who had only one goal in the whole 1966 World Cup campaign, scored a historic hat-trick in the summit clash against West Germany, hoping England would secure a 4-2 win in the extra time. After cancelling West Germany’s early lead in the 18th minute, Hurst scored twice in extra time (101′ and 120′) in the memorable final.

4. Gary Lineker: 6 goals

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona forward Gary Lineker is fourth on the list of England’s highest goal scorers at the senior level. However, following his performance in the 1986 World Cup, he became the nation’s top goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.

He scored a hat-trick against Poland before netting a brace against Paraguay. Gary Lineker also scored the Three Lions’ only goal during their semifinal defeat against Argentina in the same tournament.

3. Harry Kane: 6 goals

During the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Three Lions scored 13 goals in seven games, where they were eliminated in the semifinals by eventual runners-up Croatia.

Out of the 13 goals, six were scored by Harry Kane, who also scored a hat-trick against Panama in the group stage. He equalled Gary Lineker’s three-decade-old record of most goals in a single FIFA World Cup campaign.

2. Jude Bellingham: 6 goals

Jude Bellingham is playing a key role in England’s success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Real Madrid midfielder has played as a second striker and an attacking midfielder for Thomas Tuchel’s side. He’s also the first midfielder in the side’s history to score more than five goals in a single campaign for the side.

Bellingham has already become the third-highest goalscorer in England’s World Cup history, and the Englishman still has at least one assured game in his hand. He has more goals in the tournament than his peers, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka, and legends Michael Owen and David Beckham.

1. Harry Kane: 6 goals

Harry Kane has been the best forward in the nation’s history in the World Cup. The Bayern Munich attacker is the only forward to score 5+ goals in two different World Cup campaigns for England, and he shows no signs of slowing down. The 32-year-old has been carrying the Three Lions’ attack in the last decade, scoring 14 goals in 17 games at the global competition.
