Manchester City‘s week may have just gotten more dire, after star striker Erling Haaland was hurt while on international duty for Norway.
Haaland asked to be substituted during Norway’s UEFA Nations League match against Portugal on Sunday night. The City attacker was replaced by Jorgen Strand Larsen in the 67th minute in Porto, with the score at 1-1, after signalling to manager Stale Solbakken.
Following Haaland’s substitution, Goncalo Ramos scored Portugal’s second goal, putting them ahead. Despite Francisco Conceicao’s red card in the final moments, the home team held on to win 2-1.

Haaland participated in every minute of Norway‘s last three Nations League games during this international break. He scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Denmark before scoring once in a 2-1 loss to Portugal in their first match.
The City star went scoreless in a 2-1 loss to Wales before hobbling off against Portugal on Sunday. City boss Enzo Maresca will now be apprehensive about their trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on October 11.
Erling Haaland has seven goals in seven games in all competitions for City this season. His play has been critical to their flawless Premier League record, with Maresca’s team leading the way with five victories from five games.
City will already be missing Phil Foden for the Liverpool encounter after the midfielder was sent off for kicking Bruno Fernandes against Manchester City. There are also worries about Nico O’Reilly, who had to withdraw from the England camp due to an injury, and Antoine Semenyo, who did not play for Ghana during the break.
City are set to return to league action after an independent committee judged them guilty of 114 out of 115 counts. The club has filed an appeal after being found to have utilised a “disguised funding scheme” between 2009 and 2018 to conceal covert money totalling more than £830 million.
