The former Red and Gold fan-favourite is all set for a return after three years elsewhere in Indian football.
East Bengal continue their marauding run in the transfer market having signed several players and being linked with numerous other talented ones ahead of the upcoming season. The Red and Gold are set to reunite with Goan midfielder Cavin Lobo, as the 32-year-old is set to join the Kolkata giants in a three-year contract, Khel Now understands.
Cavin Lobo rose through the ranks at Sporting Goa before joining Dempo SC. He has been an Indian football journeyman in a true sense. The midfielder has had stints with Mumbai FC, East Bengal, Churchill Brothers, Kerala Blasters, ATK and lastly Punjab FC.
His most successful stint was with East Bengal, where he stayed from 2012 to 2018 and was the creative nucleus for the Red and Gold Brigade. He soon became a fan-favourite among the club's faithful and also earned eight caps for the Indian national team.
He also won the Indian Super League with ATK back in 2014 under the tutelage of Antonio Lopez Habas. Cavin Lobo has always been a popular figure in every team he has featured FOR. His wide range of passing and composed demeanour to control the build-up make him a real metronome in the middle of the park.
His latest stint in the I-League was with Punjab FC last season, where he featured in 15 matches and played an important role in creating chances for the team.
Cavin Lobo might not be in his prime at the moment, but he will bring cohesion in midfield, which East Bengal lacked last season until the arrival of Victor Perez. Also, he is someone who already knows the club, the fans and their expectations. Therefore, he wouldn't need time to settle all over again. Moreover, his leadership will help the youngsters to learn from someone of his calibre.
Cavin Lobo will now become one of many players signed by the Kolkata giants. Players like Balwant Singh, Mohammed Irshad, Novin Gurung, Gurtej Singh and Sehnaj Singh have already put pen to paper and will be representing East Bengal in the upcoming season.
