The 28-year-old former Atletico Madrid B winger has been impressive in the Spanish divisions of late.

Mumbai City FC are in talks to sign right winger Jorge Ortiz Mendoza from Atletico Baleares, Khel Now understands.

Playing with the Segunda Division B outfit, the 28-year-old forward has represented numerous clubs in his decade-long professional career. He was even a part of Atletico Madrid B in 2018 - the reserve team of Los Rojiblancos. Back then, he played 19 matches for them and also bagged three goals.

However, he has been particularly vital to Baleares’ success this season. His present club are placed atop the league table and look set to secure a promotion to the Segunda Division B Winners playoffs. In 20 encounters this campaign, Jorge Ortiz Mendoza has scored an impressive eight goals and assisted three others.

This suggests that he is a goalscoring winger and could potentially turn out to be an excellent addition to the Mumbai City squad. Moreover, Sergio Lobera’s arrival at the metropolis franchise could also see a flurry of Spanish players making their way into the squad.

In addition, the right winger's slot is a position in which the Islanders have struggled to fit an appropriate player in the previous Indian Super League campaign. For the majority of the season, Modou Sougou played on the right flank.

However, the Senegalese international’s goalscoring returns weren’t convincing enough. He notched three goals and assisted twice in 14 matches. Moreover, the team did not have enough backup either, as even Raynier Fernandes was deployed there in Sougou’s absence in the match against Jamshedpur FC in February.

Apart from Mumbai City FC, the winger is also being chased by FC Goa and one more ISL club. As the transfer battle heats up, it will be interesting to see what the 28-year-old decides.
