FIFA releases revised schedule of U-17 Women's World Cup

The World Cup had to be delayed from its original schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FIFA has released the updated match schedule of the U-17 Women’s World Cup that is set to be held from 17 February- 7 March, 2021 in India. Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament that is set to comprise of 32 matches. Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Navi Mumbai, Guwahati and Kolkata have been selected as the five cities in which games will take place.
Four encounters would be played on the opening day, wherein Guwahati and Bhubaneswar will host a couple each. The final along with the third-place match is to be held in Navi Mumbai on 7 March. The matches have been spaced very proportionately. There are nine rest days in the tournament that would last for 19 days. During the group stages, there is a rest day after eight matches that would be conducted in two days.
The quarterfinals will take place on 27-28 February, as two matches will be played on both days. No matches are organized on 25-26 February and 1-2 March. The quarterfinals will be held in Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Navi Mumbai. Thereafter, the semi-finals are scheduled to happen on 3 March in Bhubaneswar and Navi Mumbai.

Eventually, the final day on 7 March would determine the teams that will take the first three spots in the tournament. As mentioned earlier, both of these games would be conducted in Navi Mumbai. Bhubaneshwar will be hosting eight games, which is the highest tally allotted among all the cities in the list. Navi Mumbai will be hosting only four games, but all of them are knockout ones.
Initially, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was scheduled to be conducted from 2-21 November, 2020. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic created certain issues and hence the tournament could not be played as per the original schedule.
