When will the 2022 FIFA World Cup take place?
The biggest football tournament will kick off later this year.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to take place in Qatar. Qatar won the hosting rights of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in the year 2010. The Gulf country defeated four other nations to secure the hosting right. The list included nations like Australia, South Korea, Japan and USA.
The World Cup normally takes place once every 4 years and in the months of June and July. But this time around it is not taking place in the normal months. The 2022 World Cup will be played out in Qatar's winter months to avoid the country's high summer temperatures. Hence the tournament will take place in November and December 2022. Finally, a total of 64 matches will be played to decide the winners of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
World Cup 2022 group stage start date
The tournament was set to kick off on 21 November 2022. But the start date was pushed back by 1-day in order for the host nation to play the first game of the tournament. Qatar will take on Ecuador to kick off the competition on 20th November 2022. There will be daily group stage games from 20 November running till the 2nd of December.
World Cup 2022 round of 16 and quarter-finals start date
The knockout round ie the round of 16 kicks off on 3rd December. The round of 16 matches runs till 6th December. Finally, the quarter-finals take place on 9th December and 10th December.
World Cup 2022 semi-final and final start date
The 1st semi-final is on 13 December and the 2nd semi-final takes place on 14 December. The third place play-off match will take place on 17th Demaber. While the grand final and the final match of the tournament to decide the winners of the tournament is on 18th December.
