The Three Lions secured a podium finish in tonight’s dramatic match.
England secured a dramatic 6-4 win over France in the FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 18.
In a chaotic goalfest on Saturday night, the Three Lions took a formidable four-goal lead in the first half. Declan Rice opened the scoring inside three minutes with a solo effort. Ezri Konsa doubled the lead in the 18th minute with a header. Bukayo Saka then scored twice inside nine minutes to put his side in control of the tie at the break.
Les Bleus then mounted an incredible comeback in the second half. Kylian Mbappe pulled one back just three minutes after the restart. The French skipper then set up Bradley Barcola just six minutes later. Mbappe then netted his second goal of the night in the 66th minute.
Just when it seemed that Didier Deschamps’ men were on the verge of completing the comeback, Malo Gusto conceded a penalty. Saka dispatched the spot-kick past Mike Maignan, completing his hat-trick. He helped secure a hard-fought win for the Three Lions.
Ousmane Dembele added a late goal deep inside stoppage time, but it proved to be a mere consolation for Les Bleus. Jude Bellingham scored a brilliant solo goal soon after to cement the victory for his side.
