La Roja became the first finalists in the ongoing World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is nearing its business end, with the four remaining teams facing off in the semi-final fixtures. Spain clinched the first berth in the final of the expanded 48-team edition in North America with a comfortable 2-0 win over France at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 14.
Les Bleus, the only team in the tournament to have won all their matches in regulation time, suffered a massive setback when Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal in the box. Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton pointed to the spot, and Mikel Oyarzabal converted the resulting spot-kick.
After losing influential centre-back William Saliba to a first-half injury, France conceded again soon after the restart when Pedro Porro found the back of the net after a swift move from La Roja.
Despite some late pressure from the French side, the European champions held firm to see out a historic victory. As a result, they booked their place in the World Cup final on July 19, reaching this stage for the first time since their title victory in 2010.
