FIFA World Cup 2026 updated bracket after Mexico vs England in Round of 16
Mexico became the second co-host nation to be eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
England overcame their fears in Mexico, eventually winning at Estadio Azteca. After a chaotic FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 16 encounter in which England were down a man for almost 30 minutes, the Three Lions advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals with a 3-2 victory.
The Three Lions got off to an excellent start, with Jude Bellingham recording a brace in the first half of the fixture. But things soon turned the other way for England, who had to battle the game with a man down throughout the match.
In a knockout encounter that had almost everything for neutrals, including two penalties and one red card, England demonstrated why they are regarded as contenders. Thomas Tuchel once again demonstrated his knockout stage acumen despite being a man down.
With goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, England stopped Mexico’s fairytale run. They extended their own. They will now meet Norway on July 11 in Miami in the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
