The Round of 16 stage of the FIFA World Cup will end on July 7.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 is underway, with the remaining teams trying to book a place in the quarter-finals of the expanded 48-team edition in North America. France joined Morocco as the second team to seal a place in the last eight after a comfortable 1-0 win over Paraguay in their Round of 16 clash at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 4.
Despite dominating the match for almost the entire first half, Les Bleus could not muster a shot on target as Paraguay frustrated their star-studded front line. The breakthrough came in the 65th minute, when Gustavo Gomez bundled Desire Doue inside the box.
After a lengthy VAR check, referee Ilgiz Tantashev awarded a spot kick to the European giants, and Kylian Mbappe dispatched it into the back of the net in the 70th minute. That goal proved to be the winner, sending Les Bleus to the quarter-finals.
