Five clubs that could sign Neymar
The Brazilian winger is likely to leave PSG this summer.
Neymar Jr remains the most expensive transfer in the world of football. Paris Saint-Germain paid a whopping €222m to FC Barcelona in 2017 for the services of the player. There is no doubt about the Brazilian’s quality. Even today, he is amongst the best players in the world and is unplayable on his day. Since his move to the Ligue 1, the 30-year-old has made key contributions to the side, scoring 100 goals and 60 assists in 144 appearances.
However, reports from France are suggesting that Neymar is not part of the club’s plans for the 2022-23 season. He is most likely heading out of the club and many clubs are looking to sign him in the ongoing summer transfer window. Kylian Mbappe is the new poster boy at PSG after the Frenchman recently signed a lucrative new deal, shunning interest from Real Madrid in the process.
This is said to be one of the factors in pushing Neymar to the periphery, leading to his potential exit. There is a lot of discussion about where the sensational winger can go if he decides to leave PSG in the transfer window. To that end, here is a look at five possible destinations for Neymar Jr:
Newcastle United
Newcastle United is currently the richest club in the world. Since the takeover of the Premier League outfit by a consortium led by the Public investment fund of Saudi Arabia, the club has a huge amount of money to spend. Expectedly, NUFC will be making a few transfers that are ‘head turners’ to say the least. They will also like to make Neymar the centre of their sporting project.
There are very few clubs who can afford Neymar’s €35m wages but Newcastle United is one of those that can. PSG is open to selling Neymar for the right price and Newcastle can certainly afford the Brazilian since the influx of money at the club. This could be a sensational introduction to the Premier League for the former FC Barcelona player.
Manchester United
Manchester United are in the market for a new winger. They have eyes set on Ajax winger Antony and will cost upwards of €70m. There could be a situation where the club is priced out of a deal due to incomings in other positions. Mason Greenwood’s unavailability and Marcus Rashford’s poor form are pushing the Red Devils to bring in a high-profile wide player.
Neymar is certainly a player with the caliber to represent Manchester United. A loan deal with a potential buy clause will be the ideal scenario for all parties. The red devils can also negotiate dividing his wages with PSG to make the move happen. A partnership between Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar would be commercially beneficial as well.
FC Barcelona
A return to FC Barcelona is not out of the question for Neymar at this point. While the club is going through a financial struggle, they did enquire about bringing their former player back to La Liga. Ousmane Dembele is likely to leave the club as a free agent unless they can tie him to a new contract. In a scenario where the Frenchman leaves, Barcelona will need a replacement.
Neymar’s return could turn FC Barcelona’s fortunes around, both on the field and off the field commercially. As for the Brazilian, he would be open to reuniting with the club where he made a name for himself.
Juventus
Juventus FC is hungry to get back to winning ways in Serie A. The Old Lady has brought in Paul Pogba on a free transfer. They are also close to signing Angel Di Maria on a free transfer. The club’s financial situation prevents it from spending big on players for the moment. However, they need to bring in more quality to topple the growing stranglehold of Inter Milan and AC Milan on the league title.
Paulo Dybala left the club and become a free agent as well. Maximiliano Allegri would welcome Neymar who could secure a move to Serie A on an initial loan. This will benefit all the parties involved.
Chelsea
Chelsea is one of the likely destinations for Neymar in the upcoming transfer window. While the Blues are chasing Ousmane Dembele, they could also make a move for the Brazilian. Todd Boehly is the new owner at Stamford Bridge and will be looking to win the fans over by bringing quality players to usher the club into a new era. Furthermore, Thiago Silva, who is currently at the London-based club wants his countryman and former teammate at PSG to join him.
He is in contact with Neymar, convincing him to join the Blues if he leaves PSG. Romelu Lukaku has left Chelsea to join Inter and a few outgoings have made room on the club’s wage bill. There is a possibility that the club shifts its focus toward signing Neymar in a mouth-watering deal.
