Top five possible transfer moves that can happen in January in La Liga
The Spanish top flight league could experience several high profile deals in the winter transfer window.
The January transfer window is up and running and with it, clubs have begun to make moves to sign their preferred players. The window is essentially used to reinforce squads after identifying weak spots from the first half of the season.
La Liga 2020/21 campaign is one of the closest ones in recent years and the clubs are vying for top spots, which are there for the taking for several clubs. Given the fierce competition, reports have suggested that several transfers can take place in January by clubs, looking to bolster their squads.

Keeping all the reports into consideration, here are the five possible moves that might take place in La Liga during the January transfer window.
5. Georginio Wijnaldum to FC Barcelona
Liverpool FC’s key figure in the midfield, Giorginio Wijnaldum is nearing the exit door after talks of contract renewal have failed on multiple occasions. The Netherlands international has long been linked with a move away to La Liga, with FC Barcelona.
If the player does not sign a new contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side, then he could either be snapped up by the Blaugrana in the January transfer market or could be sealed with a pre-agreement for summer.
4. Carles Alena to Getafe CF
Carles Alena, one of the academy graduates from FC Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, has recently struggled to find gametime. The 22-year-old has not been involved by Ronald Koeman who remains unconvinced by the player’s ability to perform at the highest level.
In order to further his development, Alena needs regular gametime. He is reportedly looking to secure a loan move away from the club. Getafe CF have come out as favorites to land the youngster in the January transfer window, who has only featured twice for the Blaurgrana in La Liga.
3. David Alaba to Real Madrid
David Alaba’s contract saga with FC Bayern Munich has been doing the rounds for some time now. Amidst the chaos, it has been reported that the Austrian defender will most likely leave the Bundesliga in the January transfer window. The defender is highly-rated and had been pursued by several top-clubs like FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus.
However, the club that has likely won the race to his signature is Real Madrid. Several reports coming out of Spain suggest that Alaba could announce his next destination in the coming weeks, and his move to the La Liga giants is 'imminent'. He might sign as a free agent or will likely move in January itself for a small fee.

2. Memphis Depay to FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona clearly are in need for a striker upfront, after letting Luis Suarez go and Martin Braithwaite putting in disappointing performances. Surprisingly, Ronald Koeman has found a lack of experienced forwards in the squad, admitting that his team needs “someone upfront” after a narrow win against Huesca.
One of the favorites to land himself in Ronald Koeman’s team is Memphis Depay. The striker has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants for a long time and the Dutch connection makes the transfer ever more likely. Despite Lyon’s resilience, the club could be compelled to cash in on the player who will otherwise leave on a free at the end of the season.

1. Arkadiusz Milik to Atletico Madrid
Following the release of Diego Costa from their squad, Atletico Madrid find themselves short in the attacking department. The club are actively looking for a replacement in the transfer market and will most likely sign a forward in the coming weeks.
Among several candidates including Olivier Giroud and Willian Jose, it is believed that Arkadiusz Milik is the front-runner to seal a move to La Liga. The Polish international has had a falling out at Napoli, and has been cast out completely due to an alleged role in players’ revolt last season. He is available for as low as €20m and has enough experience to lead the line for Diego Simeone’s side.
