Five players who have moved from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig
Both of these clubs are owned by the Red Bull GmbH.
RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig are two clubs that have a lot in common. Even though the former plays in the Austrian Bundesliga and the latter plays in the German Bundesliga, the clubs are owned by the same owners.
Due to this fact, many exceptional players from RB Salzburg have transferred to RB Leipzig due to the German league being more attractive and the Red Bull connection ensures that Leipzig enjoys special and easier access to these players.
The most recent player to have followed suit is Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. He will join RB Leipzig in the January transfer window of 2021. After the confirmation of this move, we look at the top five players who have transferred from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig.
5. Amadou Haidara
Amadou Haidara joined RB Leipzig in January 2019 from RB Salzburg for a sum of €19m. The Mali international primarily plays as a central midfielder but can feature in several other positions. Recently, he has been employed in a right midfield role and has impressed of late.
He scored a crucial goal in the deciding UEFA Champions League game against Manchester United which ensured his team’s qualification into the knockout stages. The 22-year-old has started to fulfill his potential and is on the radar of several top clubs in Europe.
4. Péter Gulácsi
Péter Gulácsi has been at RB Leipzig for the last five years and has established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Bundesliga. The Hungarian joined them from RB Salzburg in 2015 for a fee of €3m.
The custodian is soon going to reach 200 appearances and will continue to feature for Leipzig in between the sticks for years to come.
3. Naby Keita
While Naby Keita plays for Liverpool right now, he has also featured for both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig in his career. The Guinea international joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in a fee around €60m.
The central midfielder featured for RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig for 81 and 71 games respectively. However, since making his move to England, the midfielder has suffered several spells on the sidelines due to injuries.
2. Dayot Upamecano
One of the most sought after center-backs in Europe, Dayot Upamecano joined RB Salzburg in 2016. The next season, the youngster joined RB Leipzig for €10m. The defender is now valued at around €60m.
The Frenchman has featured for Leipzig around 130 times as of yet, however, will most likely move on to a bigger club soon. Bayern Munich are said to be closing in to his signature.
1. Dominik Szoboszlai
The Hungarian midfielder, who has become the latest player to move from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig, joins the outfit for a fee in the region of €20m. He was on the radar of several top European clubs like Arsenal due to his immense form and marvelous creativity.
According to CIES Football Observatory, Szoboszlai is one of the most creative players in Europe who were born after 2000. The 20-year-old is being regarded widely as the next big thing in Bundesliga and will certainly add to the firepower of Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
