The winger is close to agreeing a contract extension with the Los Blancos.

Vinicius Junior is one of the most promising talents in Europe at the moment. The 21-year-old winger has been in exceptional form for Real Madrid this season. The club are looking to offer a contract extension to the young Brazilian, even though his current deal runs until 2025. Some reports out of Spain also suggest that the La Liga outfit want to include a €1 billion release clause in his contract.

Vinicius Junior has proved why he deserves a bigger, more lucrative contract at the club. His current form is up there among the best players in Europe. He is showing signs of real maturity, something fans have patiently waited for. Here are the five reasons why he deserves a contract extension:

5. Future of club

One of the biggest aspects of giving a contract extension to Vinicius Junior is his future potential. He is only 21-years-old and has a lot of room for improvement. The winger is going to be the poster-boy of the club heading into the next generation and could potentially win the Ballon d’Or. While players like Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale could not fill Cristiano Ronaldo’s shoes, the Brazilian is building his own place in the club’s history.

The youngster is very marketable. He has a strong fan-following back in Brazil as well, which is a big source of revenue for the club. Simply put, Vinicius Junior is vital to Real Madrid’s commercial growth and football-centric achievements.

4. Incredible start to current campaign

Vinicius Junior has been sensational this season

The 2021/22 season for Real Madrid has been spearheaded by two individuals, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. While the fans expect Benzema to flourish despite his age, Vinicus Junior’s form has been a pleasant surprise. He has nine goals and seven assists in 16 appearances for the club in the ongoing season.

For context, Vinicius Junior had only 13 goal contributions (six goals, seven assists) across 49 appearances in all competitions last season. The difference in form is massive and the key factor in the improvement is a rise in confidence. He is more expressive and a better individual player than last season, thus deserving of a better contract at the club.

3. Showing his qualities at young age

Vinicius Junior is still only 21-years-old, which is a fact that often goes unnoticed. At this age, he is producing better numbers than most players across Europe. He is second behind Benzema (10 goals) for scoring most goals for Real Madrid in La Liga, with seven strikes in 2021/22.

One can only wonder what kind of reading his statistics will make by the end of the season. The winger is heading towards his most successful season and doing it all at such a young age. Vinicius Junior has already played 134 games for Los Blancos and clearly will offer more moving forward.

2. An example of perseverance

One of the biggest qualities Vinicius Junior has shown in the ongoing season is perseverance. Since his arrival at the club in 2018 from Flamengo in Brazil, the winger has been under strict scrutiny by the fans. After all, the club paid over €45m for a teenager, therefore there were high expectations from the player who came to Europe with a lot of potential.

The start to his life in Spain was not smooth. He often looked to be lacking composure in the final third and needed more quality in producing crosses. The Brazilian did not produce the kind of numbers expected and was under increasing pressure to justify the money the club paid for him. However, he has silenced his critics and shown an incredible sense of perseverance, which is a hallmark of having a strong mentality.

1. Deserves fair price for his qualities

In terms of wages, Vinicius Junior is one of the lowest earners at the club (€3.2m per year). This fact will certainly play in the back of the mind of the player, who is producing the best numbers in the squad, barring Benzema. The 21-year-old has blossomed into one of the best players in the La Liga already and deserves a lucrative contract.

Vinicius Junior has been respectful to the club and has not demanded more wages. He simply wants to do his best for the team. It falls on the club to reward him fairly, thereby giving him a confidence boost. It is expected that after the contract extension, Vinicius will earn around €5.5m which will run until 2028.
