Bukayo Saka is enjoying his time at Arsenal. He has been in a great run of form under manager Mikel Arteta. Having already made 29 appearances for the club this season, it shows how much the manager favours him. He is pivotal to Arsenal’s attack and brings a lot of character, despite being only 20-years-old. The winger’s form will be crucial for the club to finish in the top four this season and his contract is due to expire on June 30, 2024.
Here are five reasons why Arsenal should hand Saka a new contract:
5. Future Prospect
Bukayo Saka is only 20-years-old. He is young and can grow to become one of the greats of Arsenal and England. He started playing at the senior level at just 17. In this period, the winger has gained rich experience at such a young age. In 125 games for the club, Saka has managed to score 22 goals and provided 29 assists. He has also made 14 appearances for his country, scoring four goals.
Saka is just reaching his peak, and is already an important member of the Arsenal squad. So, the Gunners should sign him just keeping the future in mind, where they can build a team around him.
4. Excellent Form
Bukayo Saka has been in rich form this season. He has given Arsenal crucial goals and assists, which have been match-winning for the Gunners. If Arsenal manage to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, they would need Saka to be playing at the same level.
Their attack revolves around him and his excellent form should motivate the London club to hand him a contract renewal. As per reports, Saka is loving his time under manager Mikel Arteta. The English winger can help the club return to their glory days.
3. Favourite of Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta has changed Arsenal’s fortunes. Before his arrival, the Gunners were not even considered contenders for the top four. The reason was teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool becoming heavyweights and Arsenal’s poor form for almost four seasons.
The Spaniard has done a great job. But, it would not have been possible without players such as Bukayo Saka. Saka has been consistently delivering for Arsenal and Arteta. He has grown as a player and is one of the favorites of his manager.
2. One of their own
Arsenal should be retaining a player who has come through their academy. Ever since his debut in November 2018, Bukayo Saka has made a spectacular impression at the senior level. He was also instrumental for his national side, who made it to the finals of Euro 2020.
Arsenal have done an excellent job with other players such as Emile Smith-Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli. Alongside Saka, these players have also given some spectacular performances. The Englishman knows the club inside out and can connect with the fans.
1. Prevent other clubs from luring him
As per multiple reports, Bukayo Saka is currently earning only £30,000 per week. This is far less than some of the players of his age who have the same hype around them. For example, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic reportedly earn a figure of £180,000 and £230,000 respectively. Reports also suggest that the youngster is currently unhappy with his salary. Clubs like Liverpool are also in the hunt to lure him away from the Emirates with a better contract. To prevent this, Arsenal's top priority should be to tie Saka down to a new and improved contract.
As per reports Arsenal are ready to offer their star player a salary of £125,000 as well. But, will it be sufficient enough for him to stay? Only time will tell.
