The English winger is likely to leave Manchester City in the summer.

Chelsea FC is the front-runner to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City. The English international is heading closer to a move away from the Premier League champions. This is mainly because of a lack of game-time in the previous season and a search for new opportunities.

The 27-year-old is generating a lot of interest from other elite European clubs but the Blues are leading the race. Under the new ownership, the club is confident about signing the former Liverpool player. Furthermore, due to the willingness of the player to move, the blues could negotiate a cheap transfer fee for him as well.

There are many advantages of signing Sterling during this transfer window. Bringing him to Stamford Bridge will be an advantage heading into the new season. Here is a look at five reasons why Chelsea FC should sign the player:

More to give

Contrary to popular belief, Raheem Sterling has still a lot to give. The 27-year-old is well and truly in his prime. The lack of game-time pushed him towards the periphery but a regular playing role will certainly see the winger firing on all cylinders. Despite the arrival of Jack Grealish and the sensational performances of Riyad Mahrez on the other wing, popular belief was that Sterling would become less important.

However, the winger managed 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions for the Citizens last season. His goalscoring abilities are intact and the player can still play at the top level for many more years. He has 131 goals for MCFC in the last seven years he has been at the club and can still score plenty more in the future.

Premier League experience

Raheem Sterling broke through early in his career while playing for Liverpool. He played 129 games for the Reds, scoring 23 goals and making 25 assists. Then, at 20 years old only, Manchester City bought the player for a whopping €63.70m fee. For the past decade, Sterling has been playing in the top flight.

This gives him immense Premier League experience. Chelsea must have players that are accustomed to the competition moving forward. The years of experience in winning trophies that Sterling will bring to the blues will be invaluable. After all, Sterling has 320 appearances already in the league.

Kickstart the rebuild

Chelsea FC is heading into a new era. With a new owner and possibly new players, the Blues are looking at an uncertain yet promising future. Lots of players have left the club and more will follow. Romelu Lukaku is set to join Inter while Chrisitan Pulisic intends to leave for more game-time. Due to the outgoings, the London-based club will be looking to sign players to rebuild the team.

Raheem Sterling would be an ideal figure to bring into the team and kickstart the rebuild. The club is also looking at bringing in Ousmane Dembele to the club, who will add even more quality to the team. These two could be a deadly combination on either wing and propel Chelsea to challenge the domination of teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.

The incentive of starting regularly

There are many factors that will work in Chelsea’s favour if they are to sign Raheem Sterling. One of the major reasons why the winger would be open to joining is the offer of playing more regularly. At City, Pep Guardiola has not assured Sterling a starting position in the lineup. He started only five of 12 UEFA Champions League matches and went unused in nine Premier League games.

Whereas at CFC, Thomas Tuchel is a big admirer of the winger and believes he complements the club’s style of play. The move makes sense for all parties and this is why the West London clubs should move in on him.

Easy on the wallet

There is only one year left on Raheem Sterling’s contract at Manchester City. In addition to the player looking for a new opportunity, this fact brings down his price further. With Romelu Lukaku close to leaving the club, CFC could use part of the money to bring in Sterling. Reports from England suggest that the Blues have made an offer in the region of £35m.

While this is lower than Man City’s evaluation, an improved offer could complete the deal. Sterling has family in London and grew up there. He also wants to play regular football to have a chance at making the final England national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. All the signs are there for Chelsea to move strongly for the player.
