Five ways Ousmane Dembele can change things at Chelsea FC

Chelsea is the favourite club to win the race for Ousmane Dembele. The winger is available on a free transfer as his contract runs out at the end of June with FC Barcelona. He joined the La Liga giants for a whopping transfer fee in the region of £100 million back in 2017. The former Borussia Dortmund player had a difficult time after the move due to persistent injuries hindering his gametime.

Despite delivering 13 assists and scoring two goals in 21 fixtures last season, Dembele’s time at FC Barcelona can be termed as one with unfulfilled potential. Overall, the Frenchman scored 32 goals and provided 34 assists in his time at the club.

However, with the summer transfer window set to commence and the Blues looking to bolster the squad under new owner Todd Boehly, Ousmane Dembele is likely to arrive in West London. In a scenario where Chelsea completes the signing of the winger, here is how he can change things at the club:

Help club spend money elsewhere

One of the major advantages of signing Ousmane Dembele is his availability on a free transfer. The 25-year-old has a long career ahead of him and will certainly get back to his best. FC Barcelona had to shell out nearly £100million for the winger. To get such a player for no transfer fee is going to be smart business on Chelsea’s part. 

This will allow the club to sign more players in the Todd Boehly era. Several players are leaving the club and there needs to be recruitment on a large scale. Dembele’s signing on a free transfer will leave more funds for the club to use elsewhere.

Reunite with Thomas Tuchel to regain form

Thomas Tuchel and Ousmane Dembele worked together at Borussia Dortmund. Reports out of England suggest that the tactician insists on bringing his former player to the Premier League. A reunion between the two could be a major step in the right direction for all the parties.

Ousmane Dembele is desperate for a change of environment after a horrific time at FC Barcelona. If the 23-year-old secures a move away from the club, then the Blues would need a replacement. In that situation, Ousmane Dembele would be ideal to take his place on the wings. In that way, CFC will receive a hefty transfer fee for the American and replace him at no cost.
