Three French players are at risk of missing out on the semi-final.
France take on Morocco in a highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 9. Didier Deschamps is expected to name the strongest possible starting lineup for the match against the Atlas Lions, but a few players are running the risk of missing out on the semi-final with a yellow card.
Players receive an automatic one-match suspension if they receive two yellow cards in the tournament. However, the expanded 48-team edition in North America has two stages when the yellow card counters are reset: after the end of the group stage and the quarter-finals.
However, three French players already have one booking to their name, entering the quarter-final stage. If they see one more yellow card, they will be suspended for the semi-finals, where France can face either Spain or Belgium if they survive.
Meanwhile, if these players can go through tonight’s match without any further infractions, their yellow card counters will be reset, meaning they will be eligible to play in the semi-finals and the final.

Both Bradley Barcola and Manu Kone were booked in the Round of 16 clash against Paraguay. AS Roma central midfielder Kone was booked for a late challenge on Juan Jose Caceres. Barcola, meanwhile, was booked early in the match, also for a challenge on Caceres.
Michael Olise is another key player who was booked against Paraguay. The Bayern Munich player saw a yellow card deep into stoppage time for pushing Matias Galarza to the ground. Les Bleus even launched an appeal to FIFA to overturn the booking, but the global governing body rejected the appeal.
