France and England will play at the World Cup after four years.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is currently underway, with its final fixtures, with France set to take on England in one of the historic fixtures in World Cup history, with both nations clashing in a crucial third-place play-off match at Miami Stadium in Miami, Florida, USA.

France entered the competition with massive expectations, with the Kylian Mbappé-led side targeting their third World Cup title after winning it in 1998 and 2018. Under manager Didier Deschamps, they easily navigated through the group stages, topping the group with a perfect record.

They had an impressive path in the knockout rounds, managing a comfortable 3-0 victory against Sweden in the Round of 32. France then played Paraguay in the Round of 16, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory. They confirmed their third successive semi-final appearance after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the quarter-finals. However, their journey came to an end, suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Spain.

England, led by manager Thomas Tuchel, will be aiming to finish their campaign on a high note by securing a podium finish. They had a brilliant start to their campaign, finishing as table toppers, unbeaten. They had a difficult run in the knockout stages. England first defeated DR Congo 2-1 after being 1-0 down in the Round of 32.

In the Round of 16, they displayed incredible resilience against tournament co-hosts Mexico, winning 3-2 despite playing with 10 men. They then defeated Norway 2-1 after extra time in the quarter-finals, before suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Argentina, despite initially leading the game.

Both sides share a highly competitive history, having previously played 31 times, with England holding a massive edge with 17 wins. This will officially mark the fourth World Cup meeting between France and England, with their most recent encounter being in 2022, with France securing a 2-1 victory.
