Churchill Brothers outclass Bardez in Goa Pro League
Vinil Poojary played an influential role in The Red Machine's victory with two assists and a goal.
Churchill Brothers Sports Club registered a thrashing 6-1 win over Bardez FC in a Goa Professional League match, played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Uttam Rai scored the brace, while Vinil Poojary, Cyrus Noronha, Nickson Castanha and Gilbert Oliveira scored each for the Red Machines. Cho Lepcha was the lone scorer for the Bardez side.
Churchill coach Norbert Gonsalves made three changes to his side following a draw against Corps of Signals in the last match as Vinil Poojary, Gilbert Oliveira and U-20 midfielder Cyrus found their names in the starting XI, whereas Bardez coach Savio D’Souza made two changes after facing a 2-0 defeat in the last match against Guardian Angel SC as Holiston Marak and Luis Miranda were back in the lineup.
Churchill started the match on attacking note and took just three minutes to open their account as Uttam Rai brilliantly chested down the long ball from Vinil and smartly beat the Bardez keeper Urgen Pintso to make it 1-0.
The Red Machines had a chance to double their lead in the 9th minute when they were awarded a freekick just outside the box but Bardez custodian Urgen brilliantly pushed Leny Pereira’s goalbound shot for a safety.
However, in the 29th minutes, the Varca-based club were succeeded to inflate their lead when Vinil, after getting a short pass from Gilbert entered the box and short past Bardez keeper Urgen making it 2-0 for his side.
They further extended their lead in the 44th minute when U-20 Cyrus snatched the ball from Bardez defender, cut past another defender to enter the box and clinically finished the ball in the net.

It was just two minutes from the last goal when Uttam scored his second of the evening and fourth for his team when he brilliantly headed in off Vinil’s long ball to make it 4-0 at the halftime.
Churchill added another to their tally quickly after resuming the play as substitute Nickson Castanha brilliantly scored from the free-kick just outside the box to make it 5-0. A few minutes later, Vinil easily dribbled past few opponents to enter the box but his goalbound shot was pushed for a corner by Bardez keeper Urgen.
Gilbert scored the sixth goal for the Red Machines in the 78th minute when his powerful strike from distance deflected off Bardez defender Mobin Rai and crashed into the back of the nylons.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]In the last few minutes of the match, Churchill were reduced to nine-men as first, Nickson purposely handled Ong Lepcha’s goalbound attempt where referee Tejas Nagvenkar quickly showed him the direct red card and pointed towards the penalty spot. Bardez skipper Cho Lepcha calmly reduced the margin for his side from the spot.
Whereas, in the added time, another substitute Valerio Rodrigues was sent off after he was booked for the second time in the match for a front-footed tackle on Bardez midfielder Sandip Alay.
