Dempo Sports Club start their campaign with a massive win as they drubbed Bardez FC by a 5-0 margin in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
It was a completely reformed Bardez side as they had completely new squad including their coaches as club patron Savio Roy D’Souza was seen in a role of head coach, while Thinagaran was given the responsibilities of the Technical Director. On the other side, Samir Naik included newly signed midfielder Jessel Carneiro and U20 midfielder Pruthvesh Pednekar in the starting XI.
After a possession play in the first 15 minutes, Dempo had a great opportunity to surge ahead when they were awarded a freekick just outside the box but Jessel saw his shot flung high. Three minutes later, Bardez came close to scoring when their skipper Cho Lepcha cut past a defender and strike from the top of the box but Dempo keeper stretched to his limit to push it for a corner.
Dempo finally managed to break the deadlock in the 26th minutes when a fine cross from Latesh Mandrekar was swiftly headed in by debutant Pednekar to make it 1-0 for the Golden Eagles.
Next few minutes saw Dempo completely dominating with continues attacks where Latesh was in the fine form as he came with two back-to-back crosses from the right flank but first Beevan D’Mello failed to connect from close, while a few minutes later, another curler was cleared by Bardez keeper Urgen Pintso with a diving effort.
Dempo had another chance in the dying minutes of the first session when striker Boris De Mello made a cross which was intercepted by Bardez Keeper, however, onrushing Dempo winger Pednekar tried his luck with a shot but it was cleared by Bardez defence line in the goalmouth.
