Three second half goals enabled Salgaocar Football Club to a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League at the Village Panchayat Ground, Nagoa, on Tuesday. Second half substitute Stephen Satarkar scored a brace (69’, 79’) while Chaitan Komarpant (73’) netted another for the Green Brigade. Salgaocar FC had real chance to take the lead midway in the first session when Selwyn Miranda was set on goal but with only the keeper at his mercy, Selwyn tried to dribble Calangute keeper Sanij Bugde, who recovered to stop the Salgaocar striker from scoring. Later Salgaocar’s Chaitan Komarpant tried his luck from distance with a long range shot which was cleverly dealt by the Calangute custodian. Calangute Association had a brief possession play but they hardly threaten the Salgaocar backline which was strongly marshalled by Daniel Gomes and Flagan Rodrigues. Calangute’s Valerio Rodrigues and Moises did create some chances but they were nowhere close to scoring. The half time score remained goalless. Sanson Pereira played a cross in the box from the left flank which deflected off a Calangute defender and fell into Stephen’s path, and the second half substitute scored with a simple tap in. Once up by a goal, Salgoacar FC dominated the match thereon and soon doubled the lead four minutes later once again scoring from a similar situation. Salgaocar FC’s Selwyn Miranda, on seeing Chaitan in the box, played a long ball from the right flank and the last man headed past Sanij to make it 2-0. Stephen then made it 3-0 in the 79th minute. Stephen almost scored his treble when he dribbled past five Calangute Association players but fumbled with the keeper at his sight as his weak shot was easily collected by the Calangute keeper.Latest News
