Gilbert Oliveira scored a brace for the visitors.
Guardian Angel Sports Club stunned Sesa Football Academy with a thrilling 3-2 win in the Goa Professional League at Sirsaim ground, on Tuesday. Gilbert Oliveira (10’, 63’) scored a brace for the winners while Yakubu Mohammed netted the other goal. Shajam P (32’) and Russel Vaz (56’) were on the scoresheet for Sesa FA.
Guardian Angel SC are now on 20 points from 17 games while Sesa FA have 15 points from 13 outings. There were mix exchanges as both sides had a chance each before Guardian Angel SC took the lead in the 10th minute. Gilbert Oliveira scored from outside the box with a first time shot which crushed into the bottom left corner.
After a neutral game for a major part of the session, Sesa FA finally managed restored parity at the half hour mark through Sajam. This was a cracker of a goal as Shajam’s long range effort hit the post and then took the deflection of the Guardian Angel SC keeper Jerico D’Costa and entered the goal, 1-1.
Guardian Angel SC soon took the lead in the 36th minute through their Ghanaian striker Yakubu who had a simple finish from inside the box. Guardian Angel SC came with another attempt but this time the cross was cleared by Sesa FA keeper Sapam. Crossing over, there were more goals. But Sesa FA weren’t at their usual best.
It was visible the team missed their key payers Kunal Salgaonkar and Vishnu who are with the State team in Guwahati. However, Sesa FA managed to draw level in the 56th minute through Russel, who was fed by a low cross by Shajam P.
With the scores level, it seemed like Sesa FA would do a comeback as they sent extra men forward however, their bid to score the match-winner was hit when they gave away a penalty when Sesa keeper Sapam fouled Guardian Angel SC Yakubu in the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Gilbert Oliveira stepped over and coolly converted from the spot which proved to be the match-winner.
