Real Madrid made a lot of changes to their squad ahead of the start of their LaLiga 2026-27 season. Los Blancos let go of several players whose contracts either expired or were deemed expendable. The club also added top new players to shore up those vacant positions.
One of those players who saw their time at Madrid come to an end at the end of last season is Dani Carvajal. The full-back, who attained legendary status at Los Blancos over two stays stretching 23 years, left Estadio Santiago Bernabéu after his contract was not renewed by the club.
His departure brought an end to one of the most successful careers in Real Madrid’s history. He made 450 appearances over 13 seasons with the senior side, scoring 14 goals. He won 27 major titles for Los Blancos during that time, including six UEFA Champions League trophies, becoming one of only five players to achieve this feat.
Carvajal, a 52-cap Spain international and one of the most decorated players in the game, should have attracted significant interest in the summer transfer window. However, despite being available for free, he is yet to be linked to any major clubs and currently remains unattached.

Despite being unattached, Carvajal remains a free agent. He turned 34 in January, and there have been rumours that he might call time on his career. However, the right-back remains active and is preparing for the upcoming season, wherever he may play.
According to media reports, Carvajal is training alongside former club teammate Joselu at the Spanish Football Federation’s facilities in Las Rozas. Like Carvajal, Joselu is a free agent, having left Qatari side Al Gharafa.
Clubs have likely yet to approach Carvajal due to his age and his injury record. A ruptured ACL kept him sidelined for large stretches last season. However, he still managed to make 23 appearances across all competitions, despite Trent Alexander-Arnold being preferred at right-back.
His injury issues aside, Carvajal remains a top player who would do well at a mid-table team, so Los Blancos fans can expect the legendary full-back to return to club football sooner rather than later.
