I-League 2017 Team of the Round 4
East Bengal edged out reigning champions Bengaluru FC in the weekend's big game...
In Round 4 of the I-League the two Kolkata clubs continued on their winning ways, while Bengaluru FC suffered their first defeat of the season.
Aizawl continued their march up the table while Shillong Lajong sealed their first success of the campaign.
In the weekend's first game Shillong Lajong edged past Minerva Punjab to pick up their first win of the season. Rupert Nongram and Aser Dipanda Dika scored for the Reds, while Loveday Enyinnaya scored for Minerva.
Elsewhere DSK Shivajians were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Churchill Brothers. North Korean striker Kim Song-Yong put the hosts ahead but centre-back Adil Khan snatched a point late on.
Mohun Bagan had to battle a plucky Chennai outfit but won 2-1 to maintain their perfect start to the season. Marcos Costa gave the debutansts a second half lead, but goals from Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sony Norde eased the Mariners to another win.
East Bengal edged past Bengaluru FC in the weekend's big game. CK Vineeth gave the Blues the lead but the hosts hit back through Ivan Bukenya. Second half substitute Robin Singh scored against his former club to seal a vital win for the Red and Gold.
In the weekend's last game Aizawl FC nicked a 1-0 win against Mumbai thanks to a goal from midfielder Mahmoud Al Amnah. It was sweet success for Mumbaikars boss Khalid Jamil who collected three points on his return to the metropolis.
The table is now starting to take shape with Bagan leading the way on 12 points from four games. East Bengal and Aizawl are on their heals with 10 points each. Bengaluru drop to fourth with mnine points. Mumbai round off the top half. Shivajians have four points, while Lajong have three. Chennai, Minerva and Churchill all have a point each, withy the Goan club bottom.
