Chennai City assistant coach Jordi Villa praises new signing Monte Cruz

The Spanish striker will be expected to deliver thegoals for the southerners next season.
Ahead of the next season, southerners Chennai City FC have announced yet another overseas signing in Pedro Javier Manzi Cruz. The Spanish striker joins the I-League side from Spanish Third Division outfit CE L'Hospitalet and is expected to put an end to their poor goalscoring record in the upcoming season.
The attacker had an impressive season with his former club as he scored 17 goals in 20 games. When asked about the new signing, Chennai's assistant coach Jordi Villa was full of praise for the striker.
"He has the pace. Very physical player. Cruz will cope up well in our combinative style of game,” Villa said hinting at a new approach to their gameplay in the forthcoming campaign. The southerners were criticized for their long ball approach under former head coach V Soundrarajan, who was also criticized by his players after his sacking.

The love between Chennai City's newly-appointed head coach and assistant coach with Spanish players continues as Cruz becomes the third player from the European powerhouse to join the southerners after Eslava Suarez and Sandro Rodriguez.

"He was the best player of the Senior Division this season. He will be crucial for us to play box-to-box,” Villa asserted before concluding.
