The 31-year-old comes with a lot of experience from La Liga and has last played in the A-League.
Mohun Bagan are in search of a new foreign striker and sources close to the club have confirmed that the outfit are in talks with former Sevilla forward Baba Diawara. The Mariners have released their Spanish striker Salva Chamorro after a string of below-average performances. Although, Chamorro started brilliantly with a brace in his opening game of the Durand Cup, he could not continue the same form in the CFL or in the ongoing I-League, which resulted in his axe. The management wants someone who is experienced and can lead the line. Diawara fits the bill perfectly. [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] The 31-year-old was born in Dakar, Senegal and started his career with ASC Jeanne d'Arc, a Senegalese outfit, before moving to Europe and joining CS Maritimo in Portugal. There, he impressed everyone and gradually went up in the pecking order. He finally made his debut for the senior team in the 2007-08 season of Liga Nos. Further, he had a great time in Portugal after being promoted to the first-team. Diawara scored 10 goals in the 2008-09 campaign and from there he simply became the driving force for the team. His impressive performances in Portugal attracted interest from a lot of European clubs including Olympiacos, Celtic, Sporting, and so on, but it was Sevilla who won the race to sign him. He joined the Spanish club in 2012 and played alongside Jose Antonio Reyes. After struggling to find regular game-time, he was loaned out to Levante and Getafe before returning to Maritimo in Portugal. His latest stint was in Australia when he joined A-League outfit, Adelaide United in 2017. But, injuries forced him to remain on the sidelines. Despite scoring a few goals here and there, he struggled on the bench which eventually resulted in his dismissal. He had major knee surgery during his time at Adelaide United. Diawara is a very busy striker and his attacking instinct coupled with his agility makes him a nightmare for opposition defenders. Despite all the troubles he had at Adelaide, their former boss Marco Kurz lauded him for his exceptional finishing skills and regarded him as a danger man in the box. [KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Article Continues Below"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS] There is no doubt that Diawara's arrival could be crucial for Kibu Vicuna's men in their bid for the I-League title, as the 31-year-old is a very reliable forward and his experience of playing in top clubs in Europe will be crucial for the whole team to progress in the ongoing campaign. We have news that Mohun Bagan have already contacted the player and now it remains to be seen whether the former Sevilla man makes the trip to Indian shores or not.Latest News
