The Mariners have already begun business for the next season and have pulled off some quite good signings.

Finishing fifth in the I-League, it was a pretty disappointing season for Mohun Bagan as they moved on from the tutelage of Shankarlal Chakraborty to appoint former East Bengal gaffer Khalid Jamil, as the head coach for rest of the season.

However, they had to settle for a lowly position. Nevertheless, post the season finale, the club roped in Jose Antonio Vicuna as the new head coach.

‘Kibu’, as he is popularly known in the footballing fraternity, comes with tremendous coaching experience especially in the Spanish, as well as Polish divisions. The Spaniard was once the assistant manager of LaLiga outfit CA Osasuna and also with Polish giants Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznan too.

Since his appointment at Bagan, Kibu spoke for the first time, addressing the fans in particular. “I have read a lot of about Indian football and of course Mohun Bagan,” began Kibu, “the most successful Indian club and with passionate fans like you.”

“This is why I decided to take up the challenge. I had a very fruitful discussion with the management of Mohun Bagan.”

The newly-appointed coach continued to address the fans saying, “We are planning to work together with you in order to bring success to the team.”

“I cannot wait more to meet you guys. Dream big and fearlessly support Mohun Bagan,” he added later.

Having said so, he ended up with the short video which was then posted on the official YouTube channel of the club.

Kibu’s arrival brings a lot of excitement amongst the fans as they await to see their team get back to winning ways for the next season. Moreover, the club’s preparations for the next campaign are already underway as they roped in the likes of Ashutosh Mehta (from FC Pune City) and Dhanachandra Singh (from Jamshedpur FC), in a bid to bolster the defence. On the other hand, Ranjan Chowdhury of the East Bengal fame, also joined the ranks at Bagan as an assistant to Kibu for the next season.

If that wasn’t all, the Mariners’ received great news stating that they were being considered to be included in the Club of Pioneers, an elite football group formed by Sheffield United which also involves the likes of top clubs such as Genoa and Royal Antwerp.

Thus, it is safe to say that the Mariners are all set for the next season as they seek redemption following a poor last season.
