The 31-year-old has previously plied his trade in the first division of his home country.

Goa-based I-League side Churchill Brothers have roped in former Slovenia U-21 international striker Luka Majcen for the upcoming season. The club announced his signing via a social media post on Tuesday.

“Hello to all the fans of Churchill Brothers football club. I hope you are safe. My name is Luka Majcen and I am a striker from Europe, Slovenia," the player introduced himself via a video message posted by the club.

"First of all, I want to thank to all the members of the Alemao family and coach for this opportunity. It is an honour to be part of the club which has amazing history in India. My aim is to help the team as much as I can and help them win the title ofcourse. Let’s go Red Machines,” he further added.

Majcen played for Slovenian first division side NK Trigav Kranj last season. However, the side finished ninth and were relegated to the second tier. In his 96 appearances for the club, the forward has scored 33 goals after joining the club in 2017.

Meanwhile, Churchill Brothers had a below-par season last year as they finished eighth in the I-League and have roped in former Gokulam Kerala head coach Santiago Varela. Varela won the prestigious Durand Cup for the Malabarians and the Goan outfit would be hoping to win silverware this season under his tutelage. Considering his goal tally back in his home country, Luka Majcen could turn out to be a deadly signing for Churchill Brothers.

On the other hand, the upcoming season will see the inclusion of Mohammedan SC and Sudeva Delhi in the I-League. Moreover, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have jumped ship to the Indian Super League (ISL). The season is set to be played in West Bengal and it will be behind closed doors as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
