The 28-year-old had joined the I-League newcomers last season from disbanded Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos.

Despite the lockdown due to COVID-19, the Indian football scene is still seeing some ongoing activity from different clubs across both the top leagues. In line with the same, Gokulam Kerala are close to snapping up goalkeeper Shayan Roy from TRAU FC to fortify their last line of defence for the upcoming campaign, Khel Now can confirm.

The 28-year-old joined the I-League newcomers last season from disbanded Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos. Roy was mostly an understudy to Mithun Samanta throughout the season, but his performance against Chennai City FC earned him a lot of plaudits.

The former Pailan Arrows custodian was a livewire on the field against the former champions, as he saved everything that came his way. He denied Katsumi Yusa with a brilliant double save and kept his team in the game throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite an underwhelming season, some of the Indian players have showcased their talent on the big stage and have rightfully earned big contracts with various ISL and I-League clubs. Shayan Roy looks to be the latest player to leave TRAU and join Gokulam Kerala for the next season.

The Malabarians were quite decent defensively and with this signing, they will hope that they can challenge for the title next season. However, life won't be easy for the Bengal-born custodian in Kerala, as the club already have experienced goalkeepers like Ubaid CK and Lalit Thapa and he will have his task cut out.

Roy willl become the latest player to leave TRAU ahead of the upcoming season, as the likes of Premjit Singh, Denechandra Meetei, Sandeep Singh, Loken Meetei have already joined various clubs, while Krishnananda Singh, Deepak Devrani and Angousana Luwang are also set to depart for greener pastures.
