Technical director Shankarlal Chakraborty will take over the reigns till the end of the season.

After suffering back-to-back defeats in the I-League, Mohammedan Sporting have decided to part ways with Spanish head coach Jose Hevia.

The Black Panthers have never looked like imposing themselves in the I-League this season. In the eight matches they have played, the Kolkata-based club have only managed to register two wins which have come against Sudeva Delhi and Gokulam Kerala. The Black Panthers have struggled to score goals and have also failed to win decisive matches.

Moreover, the club has gone through too many changes in their foreign quota throughout the season and it has not allowed players like John Chidi and Pedro Manzi settle into the new conditions. Keeping the pandemic and bio bubble in mind, things have been all the more difficult.

After their win against Sudeva Delhi in the curtain raiser of the season, they have only managed to muster four consecutive draws which pegged their progress. However, the arrival of attacking reinforcement in the form of John Chidi and Pedro Manzi propelled them to a win against Gokulam Kerala. The next two matches were a complete disaster for the Black Panthers as they narrowly lost against Indian Arrows and then were completely dominated by a young Aizawl FC side.

Jose Hevia has been indecisive with his tactics and it was evident during the IFA Shield as well when they lost to Real Kashmir in the semi-finals. While the management decided to give him time, the Spaniard didn't show any signs of improvement whatsoever.

With his departure, technical director Shankarlal Chakraborty will take over the reigns. The former Mohun Bagan head coach will look to impose his brand of football on this team. Currently, in the eighth position, Mohammedan Sporting will look to get maximum points from the remaining fixture and will also aim to finish in the top half of the table with eyes on the next round.
