Mohammedan SC have been active in the market and will look to mount a strong challenge in the I-League next season. The 2021-22 campaign is set to start later this year and will be held in a bio-bubble in Kolkata. The outfit will hope to use the home advantage and challenge for the title after finishing sixth overall last term.

A lifeline for the player

Wayne Vaz has moved around quite a lot in Indian football so far in his career. He first signed for Chennai City during the 2016-17 campaign. He later moved to FC Pune City in the ISL and subsequently played for Churchill Brothers back in the I-League. NorthEast United paved the way for his return to the top flight, by acquiring him ahead of the 2019-20 season of the ISL. Vaz made 10 appearances in his debut season for the Highlanders, clocking 725 minutes of football.

However, the second season was one to forget for the defender. He could not feature in a single game during their 2020-21 ISL campaign, despite being a part of the squad. Now, the move to Mohammedan SC could bring a change in fortunes for him.

His past experience of playing in the I-League (28 appearances) will certainly help him to settle down quickly with his new employers. Meanwhile, the Black Panthers have been very active in the market themselves.

They have signed players like Milan Singh, Malsawmzuala, Zothanmawia, Suraj Rawat and more, and also roped in former Gokulam Kerala star Marcus Joseph. The Kolkata-based outfit are definitely making ambitious moves ahead of the 2021-22 campaign and bringing Wayne Vaz will shore up their defence furthermore.
