Player Profile
Shankar Sampingiraj is a defensive midfielder by trade. However, he can also play in a box-to-box role and likes to involve himself in the attacking third. He will immediately settle in the midfield department at RoundGlass Punjab and provide important cover to the defensive line.
Sampingiraj played 11 times for Chennai City in the I-League in the previous campaign, captaining them against Mohammedan SC on one occasion as well. His leadership quality could be vital on the field for a young team like RoundGlass Punjab.
The midfielder started his career with HAL in the I-League, before signing for DSK Shivajians. Shankar has won the I-League previously with Bengaluru FC during the 2015/16 season before moving to the ISL, where he represented clubs like Kerala Blasters, ATK, FC Pune City and Hyderabad FC.

Club’s Ambitions
RoundGlass Punjab FC are one-time I-League champions after winning the title back in 2017/18 (as Minerva Punjab). Their last season’s performance was mediocre to say the least. They qualifued into the championship table, however, settled for a fourth place finish. The club would definitely like to improve on their performance in the next season, which begins later in 2021.
Bringing in a player like Shankar Sampingiraj is a move in the right direction. He will provide more stability in the heart of the midfield, allowing attackers to express themselves more.
