Sreenidhi Deccan FC complete signing of Arijit Bagui

The defender has most prominently featured for Mohun Bagan in the I-League.

The new I-League outfit Sreenidhi Deccan FC have completed the signing of defender Arijit Bagui, Khel Now can reveal. He has penned a two-year contract with the club. He arrives from Mohammedan SC who also play in the same division. The defender only played four games last year and this move will help in earning more game-time. 

“Sreenidhi Deccan FC are set to complete the signing of defender Arijit Bagui. He has been offered a two-year deal and is expected to sign on the dotted line soon,” a source close to the developments informed Khel Now.

Sreenidhi have been very active in the transfer market lately. They have brought in players like Dinesh Singh, Ubaid C.K., and former TRAU FC player Shahbaaz Khan. The upcoming season of the I-League will be their first and therefore recruitment is in full-force. 

The Club

The Hyderabad-based club will make their debut in the upcoming campaign. Sreenidhi Deccan will rely on players like Arijit Bagui who can use their experience for the betterment of the team. The outfit got the nod to play in the second tier of the Indian league system after the AIFF invited fresh applications for a corporate entry into the league. 

They have also appointed former Gokulam Kerala and Churchill Brothers manager Fernando Varela. The tactician has tasted success with the Malabarians by helping them win the Kerala Premier League. He also helped them lift the Durand Cup, before joining the Goan club ahead of the 2020/21 season. 

The Player

Arijit Bagui is part of the whole host of players who are coming in at Sreenidhi Deccan. The defender can play both as a full-back or a centre-back. He is 27-years-old and previously represented clubs like Mohun Bagan, Bhawanipore FC and Mohammedan SC. This will also be the first time he will play for a non-Kolkata-based outfit. 

The two-year deal will see him stay with Sreenidhi Deccan FC until 2023. The defender played for Kalighat Milan Sangha during his first professional stint in the 2013/14 Calcutta Football League. He joined Peerless SC later in 2016 where the change in his position took place. Arijit made the transition from being a winger to a full-back while representing Peerless.

In preparation of the 2017/18 season of the CFL, Mohun Bagan signed Arijit Bagui after his decent performances for Peerless SC. The full-back won the Calcutta Premier Division with the Mariners during the 2018/19 season.
