The 21-year-old played just twice in the ongoing Durand Cup 2022.

Subha Ghosh has officially penned a multi-year contract with the reigning winners of the I-League, Gokulam Kerala FC. The deal was done and sealed on the transfer deadline day, Khel Now can confirm. The 21-year-old featured for SC East Bengal as a loanee from Kerala Blasters FC last season in the ISL.

“Subha Ghosh has completed his signing procedures for Gokulam Kerala FC. He has agreed all terms and has officially terminated the contract with Kerala Blasters FC,” a source close to the developments informed Khel Now.

About the Player

Hailing from Kolkata, West Bengal, Subha Ghosh is an academy product of Mohun Bagan. After spending the earliest days of his football career there, he earned a promotion to the Mariners’ senior team who were then playing in the I-League. He won the I-League title with them in the 2019-20 season and afterward signed with ATK Mohun Bagan.

The forward made his I-League debut against Churchill Brothers replacing Nongdamba Naorem at the 72-minute mark when his team was 1-4 down already. However, Ghosh showed promise in that little time as he maneuvered the half-spaces very well and found himself in a goal-scoring position twice and out of which he scored once – making him a trump card for Kibu Vicuna throughout the I-League campaign.

Ghosh showed glimpses of his talent in the Calcutta Football League where he scored against NBP Rainbow. He came on as a substitute and scored the solitary goal of the match as the Mariners won 1-0.

Apart from being a withdrawn forward, he has the guile and agility to play in wider roles. He can also play as an inside forward, where he can give the opposition defenders a run for their money.

However, he did not get any action in the ISL following his ATKMB move. This, in turn, led him to join Kerala Blasters in January 2021.

A controversy surrounding the Nongdamba Naorem – Subha Ghosh swap deal between Blasters and ATK Mohun Bagan rendered him out of action for the remainder of the league, pending AIFF approval. By the time the approval came confirming him to be a part of the KBFC roster, ISL 2020-21 had concluded. He was later close to joining their Reserves’ side for the Kerala Premier League (KPL), but an injury delayed his return to the pitch even further.

Subha Ghosh was loaned to SC East Bengal in the previous season. He featured a total of three matches for the red and gold brigade.

After returning back to Kerala Blasters following the end of the loan period, Subha Ghosh was added to the B team of KBFC which is currently playing in the Durand Cup. He made a total of two appearances in the yellow jersey prior to joining Gokulam Kerala FC.

Gokulam Kerala’s preparations for I-League 2022-23

After a successful I-League campaign that saw them lift the I-League title, Gokulam Kerala is going through a transition. The Malabarians beat Mohammedan SC on the final day to become the first team to successfully retain the I-League trophy.

They have parted ways with two-time title-winning coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese. Gokulam has also lost multiple domestic talents to ISL and fellow I-League clubs which include Emil Benny and Jithin M.S.

Gokulam Kerala FC is trying to hold onto the winning momentum through their new coach Richard Towa. They recently made some new foreign acquisitions to strengthen their team which includes Brazilian midfielder Everton Kaka. The transfer window also saw their former midfielder Arjun Jayaraj returning back to their base after a stint with Kerala United FC.
