RoundGlass Punjab set to sign Spanish midfielder Juan Mera

He scored two goals and provided five assists last season.
Spanish winger Juan Mera has signed for RoundGlass Punjab, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development informed Khel Now, “Juan Mera has agreed terms on an initial one-year contract at RoundGlass Punjab. However, there are certain clauses.”
Though it is a one-year deal for Juan Mera, there is an option to extend for another year.
About the player
Juan Mera came to India as a 25-year-old in 2019. He signed for East Bengal and played an instrumental role in the side’s campaign that season. The winger appeared 16 times in I-League 2019/20 and secured two goals. He also delivered two assists. In 2020, Mera went back to Spain to don the CD Lealtad colours.
The year 2021 saw the Spaniard make his way back to India. He joined I-League side NEROCA FC. A total of 10 appearances saw Juan Mera scoring twice and assisting five times. His performance certainly grabbed the attention of RoundGlass Punjab FC. As a result, the club decided to sign him.
In his career, Mera has played for clubs like Celta Vigo B, Racing Ferrol, CD Teruel and SD Leioa. His youth career is said to dwell from Sporting de Gijon, for whose 'B' side, he has played 155 matches and scored 21 goals.
RoundGlass Punjab’s I-League 2021/22 campaign
RoundGlass Punjab ended their I-League campaign in the fifth position of the table. In the 18 matches the club played, they won eight, drew four and suffered six losses. The team scored 33 goals in the league and conceded 29.
Thus, it may be opined that RoundGlass Punjab need to put more focus in their defensive unit. Meanwhile, in the middle of the season, head coach Ashley Westwood and the club parted ways. Ed Engelkes was given charge of the side. Kurtis Guthrie scored 10 goals to become the club’s top goal-scorer in the campaign.
