Sreenidi Deccan FC has handed a two-year contract extension to their defensive-midfielder Muthu Irulandi Mayakkannan, Khel Now can confirm. The Tamil midfielder played a huge role in coordinating the midfield for the Deccans last season. The extension will see Mayakkannan don the Sreenidi Deccan jersey till 2024, Khel Now can confirm.
"The club are happy to sign him for two more years," a source close to the development informed Khel Now.
About the Player
Mayakkannan learned the basics of football from Noble Football Academy in Tamil Nadu. The road was not smooth enough for him due to the monetary issues and dearth of resources he tackled in his boyhood.
His brilliant outing in the 2016/17 CFA Senior Division League paved the path for his arrival at Gokulam Kerala FC in 2018. He played for Chennai United and Viva Chennai before joining Gokulam Kerala. Primarily, Mayakkannan played for Gokulam Kerala's reserves team but his resilient performance helped him climb the ladders to the senior team. He featured nine times in the I-League 2019/20 for the Malabarians before it drew to an early close owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After winning the 2020/21 I-League title with Gokulam Kerala, Muthu Irulandi Mayakkannan signed for I-League debutants Sreenidi Deccan last season.
In search of a solid defensive midfielder in their debut season, the club arrived at a conclusion by obtaining the signature of Mayakkannan. Proving his worth, the 25-year-old midfielder made an instant impact both on and off the pitch. Mayakkannan featured mostly in the role of an anchor man but at times he was even deployed as a box-to-box player. He played 18 matches last season where he enjoyed 1501 minutes of action.

Sreenidi have also added goalkeeper Jaspreet Singh, defenders Asheer Akhtar, Asraf Ali Mondal and Md Abdul Salam to their ranks.
