The Costa Rican feels the club could have done more to help him return home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Notable defender Johnny Acosta is certainly disgruntled with the manner in which his tenure with East Bengal concluded. He has criticized the club for showing a lack of sympathy, as they reportedly didn’t aid him in his journey back to Costa Rica. Acosta was stuck in Kolkata ever since the nationwide lockdown commenced back in March. Bidding a farewell to the club, the 36-year-old penned a moving message on his official Instagram handle.

Acosta stated, “I close a cycle of my life, this time a little different. In a great institution to which I have a lot of love and respect, Quess East Bengal FC, but that in the end there were contract and salary issues that failed to comply. In addition to little help for my return to Costa Rica, where the club showed little disposition and wre apathetic to my situation!” Quess Corp Ltd had acquired a 70% stake in East Bengal on a three-year-long contract. However, they activated the ‘force majeure’ clause to terminate the agreement and both the concerned parties parted ways with each other on May 31, 2020.

Thereafter, several players had sent notices to the former investors to attain their salaries for the months of April and May. Apparently, the Bengaluru-based company has agreed to obey all the obligations after the aforementioned action taken by some individuals. Infact, numerous foreign players were unable to depart Kolkata to reach their respective abodes. Whilst some international players did leave, the likes of Acosta were struck for a lengthened period of time.

Naturally, he would have expected better assistance from his employers in this unprecedented situation. There was a report that emerged last month, wherein it was stated that Quess had asked staff members and other players to vacate their respective accommodation ahead of May 31 deadline. Midfielder Kasim Aidara and a Spanish member of the support staff named Carlos Nodar were among the people who had to dwell in the city for longer than others did.

“I keep good times and I thank all the fans who always show their support. I carry them in my heart, thank you East Bengal FC,” Acosta concluded.
