The player will look to lift his derailed career after the age-fraud controversy back in 2018.

Jamshedpur FC forward Gourav Mukhi is set to join Mohammedan SC as the Black Panthers are gearing up for the upcoming I-League season, Khel Now understands. The forward was associated with the Men of Steel from 2017 onward and rose through the ranks to make it to their senior team in 2018.

However, he was handed a six-month suspension by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in November 2018 after he admitted to have committed an age fraud. Gourav Mukhi had made his ISL debut after coming on as a substitute against Bengaluru FC in the 2018-19 campaign. The player from Jharkhand bagged a goal straightaway and was deemed to be the youngest-ever goal-scorer (16) in the history of the competition.

Since then, it has been a rocky ride for the forward as he has made only four ISL appearances in total. Gourav Mukhi has a solitary goal and assist each to his name and will be eager to prove his mettle in the second-tier with Mohammedan SC.

The Kolkata-based outfit secured a place in the I-League after emerging triumphant in the qualifying tournament that was held in October this year. The Black Panthers had finished atop the league table with three victories and a draw in four encounters.

They were extremely active in the transfer market ahead of that tournament and secured players aplenty to bolster their squad. Meanwhile, Mukhi will face tough competition from the likes of Willis Plaza, Subash Singh and other Indian talents to start in the frontline.

However, this opportunity serves like a timely break to the player whose career has been derailed after a jubilant start in the ISL. With Mohammedan looking keen to create an impact, Mukhi’s association with the ambitious club will be closely followed in the coming months.
