Romanian Petre Gigiu joins Churchill Brothers as head coach

Alfred Fernandes has been promoted to the Technical Director post for the Margao-based side.
For the upcoming season, Churchill Brothers have appointed Romanian Petre Gigiu as their new head coach. Before joining the Goan outfit, the former Levski Sofia striker had served in Algeria, where he managed CRB Aïn Fakroun, US Chaouia FC and Cabba.
Club CEO Valanka Alemao stated, “I am happy with the appointment of our new head coach Petre Gigiu. I am confident about him and the squad. I am looking forward to a successful season with him.”
Gigiu has already met the other coaching staff and took charge of the team from today – 22nd August 2018 – when he held a practice session at Fatorda Artificial Turf.
Last season, Churchill Brothers appointed Ukrainian Mykola Shevchenko as their head coach, but after a few matches, he was sacked following a winless streak in the first five matches. However, this season, Alemao is very confident about the Romanian coach.

“You cannot have two cooks for one dish and last year same happened. It was a confusing situation between Mykola and Joseph Afusi. This season we are very clear about the positions. Though Churchill Brothers’ participation in the I-League is still not confirmed, it looks like the Goan club has learnt a lesson from the last two seasons as they have already signed the required domestic players, along with a few foreign players. Also, with the appointment of Gigiu, Churchill seem to be pretty serious for the upcoming campaign.
