Ryan Williams, after a disappointing turn of events that happened in November 2025, failed to feature for the Blue Tigers in their match against Bangladesh due to a delay in the clearance from FIFA’s Players’ Status Chamber.

The striker, thus, had to wait for four months to finally make his debut for the Indian National Football team in the match against Hong Kong, at Kochi.

Ryan had nothing less than a dream start in the Blue jersey. The striker kept the attacking intent high and broke the deadlock of the match in the fourth minute, providing India with the much-needed advantage in the match.

Later, Ryan was also involved in a good number of attacking moves and combined well with Chhangte and Manvir to pile pressure on the opponents and force errors from them.

Ryan showed an immense workload, and his work rate, throughout the minutes played, proved vital for the Blue Tigers’ only victory in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Despite being a dead rubber match, the Blue Tigers did not lack the vigor to keep the opponents alert with their offensive initiatives.

They kept attacking right from the whistle and this bore immediate results as India broke the deadlock of the match just in the fourth minute of the game. Manvir Singh exploited the opponents defensive lapse in a quick counterattack and provided a carpet pass to Ryan Williams, who scored his maiden goal for India.

Later, in the second half, Bheke deployed a long throw in inside the Hong Kong box, which after deflecting from an opponent, finally found its way to the back of the net, courtesy of Akash Mishra, who scored from a tight angle.

India kept relentlessly attacking till the last minutes with the likes of Manvir Singh, Chhangte, Ryan, Ashique, Apuia and many more to ensure that the victory.

The Blue Tigers registered their first victory of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. However, the result has come too late for India as way ahead of this fixture, the Blue Tigers were out of contention for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.

With one win and two draws, India have finished the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign as the bottom places team of the Group C table.

However, despite this stat, Khalid Jamil and his side would be happy with the fact that they ended the campaign on a positive note, as this result is crucial for the FIFA ranking points it offers.
