Three Hong Kong players to watch in AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against India

India will face Hong Kong on 31st March

India are poised to face a stern challenge in their first match of 2026, when they host Hong Kong in their final 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifier on Tuesday, 31 March (2026). The Blue Tigers suffered a gutting narrow loss to Hong Kong in their previous meeting, which is why they will be gunning for revenge in the upcoming clash and hope to start their 2026 in a bright fashion.

Hong Kong have undergone many changes since that last meeting against the Blue Tigers. Ashley Westwood, now the Kerala Blasters, left them in 2025, and Roberto Losada is currently serving as their caretaker manager.

The Hong Kong squad that has travelled to face India in their final AFC Asian Cup qualifier is missing many experienced players like Yapp Hung Fai, Juninho, Matt Orr and Stefan Pereira – who have all been left at home.

Despite that, the current Hong Kong squad also boasts some quality players who can pose a real threat to India. There is a nice amount of experience factor in Roberto Losada’s current bunch of players, with a few individuals really standing out in terms of the damage they can cause to India.

Here, we look at the three Hong Kong players to watch out for their final 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against India.

3. Sun Ming Him

Sun Ming Him is definitely one of the more experienced members of the current Hong Kong side, having played at the international level from 2019.

The 25-year-old, who plays for Chinese Super League club Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, is a versatile player who can play either as a left winger or left back. He is likely to play in the left wing-back role against India and will look to be a tormenting figure for his side.

Ming Him’s marauding forward runs, impressive pace, and driving ability definitely helps him stand out from the rest – enabling him to help create chances from the left-wing. He will, of course, be focused on neutralizing India’s threat through his side with diligent defensive work to win back possession in key areas.

However, the Hong Kong side will need the 25-year-old to be clever with his crosses to create chances and also clinical in finishing off any chances that come his way against the Blue Tigers.

2. Chan Siu Kwan

Chan Siu Kwan is going to be the one who dictates a lot of Hong Kong’s attacking pressure on India in the upcoming clash, after establishing himself as an exciting attacking midfielder. The 33-year-old has been playing for Vietnamese side Tai Po FC in the last few seasons, and he was particularly prolific for them in the 2024-25 season – scoring 13 goals in 22 appearances!

The Vietnamese attacking midfielder has scored seven goals in 34 appearances for his national team, out of which three were in 2025!

Chan Siu Kwan will be looking to be the unpredictable threat in his side’s midfield, making clever forward passes and getting into the danger zones consistently.

He will look to create big chances for his teammates, but also aim to get the ball in dangerous goal-scoring positions to finish chances to enhance Hong Kong’s chances of scoring multiple goals against India.

1. Everton Camargo

Everton Camargo is arguably Hong Kong’s biggest goal threat heading into their upcoming clash against India. With the Hong Kong side opting against picking the likes of Matt Orr, Stephan Pereira or even Raphael Merkies for this clash, their forward line is a bit short-staffed in terms of experience.

That is why a lot of responsibilities will probably be laid upon Camargo, who has enjoyed a pretty impressive 2025-26 season for Lee Man FC in the Hong Kong Premier League.

He has scored 11 goals in 18 appearances for Lee Man and definitely has form on his side. The 34-year-old will be looking to make clever off-the-ball runs into the danger areas to trouble the Indian backline and disrupt their rhythm.

He will need to be at his ruthless best in terms of finishing off chances clinically to help Hong Kong torment the Blue Tigers and get a famous win from their own yard.
