Ahmed Jahouh had a memorable season at Odisha FC.

In a remarkable feat, Ahmed Jahouh of Odisha FC has become the first foreign player from an Indian club to lead the assists chart in the 2023-24 AFC Cup, setting a new benchmark with seven assists. This milestone comes after Odisha FC’s impressive run in the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stage, where they emerged as the champions of South Zone.

Jahouh, a seasoned midfielder known for his vision and precision, joined Odisha FC ahead of the 2023-24 season, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his time at FC Goa and Mumbai City FC. His leadership and playmaking abilities were instrumental in Odisha’s success throughout the AFC Cup campaign.

Odisha FC started their journey in their maiden continental competition in a challenging way with two initial defeats against Mohun Bagan and Bashundhara Kings. However they scripted a massive comeback as they secured a huge victory over Maziya by a 6-1 margin in their third match, sparking a turnaround that helped them top group D despite facing tough competition from the regional heavyweights.

Odisha FC’s campaign, however, concluded in the Inter Zonal semi-finals, where they were outplayed by Central Coast Mariners of Australia, ending their run with an aggregate score of 0-4. Nonetheless, Jahouh’s achievement in the AFC Cup has been a highlight for Indian football, showcasing the growing influence within the league.
