The Stakes

India U-20

India U-20 vs Bangladesh U-20 Preview - Team news, lineups | AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers
India will play Bangladesh on September 6th.

The India U-20 side have had a really topsy-turvy outing at the qualifiers for the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup so far.

After starting the tournament with a rather impressive win over Syria U-20, all that picked up momentum was vanquished in their dismal loss to Uzbekistan U-20 in their last game.

Now, it’s on Mahesh Gawali to reinvigorate his youngsters to be able to pick themselves up and produce another compelling display in the qualifiers.

The India U-20 side need to keep a sturdier defensive shape against the Bangladeshi youngsters, but their priority will definitely be to play on the attack. Gawali will urge his players to be brave and innovative with their attacking build-up play to be able to create and convert big chances, which can inspire them to a big win.

A thrilling win for India U-20 can keep their hopes of qualifying for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup alive, but anything other would be a huge set-back and will probably cause them to miss out on qualification.

Bangladesh U-20

Bangladesh are yet to win a match in AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

The Bangladesh U-20 side have struggled to hold their own in the qualification group for the 2027 U-20 AFC Asian Cup, as they have suffered back-to-back losses in quite disappointing fashion.

They have not been able to score a single goal yet and have already conceded five times, being outwitted and overwhelmed in their last two matches. Now, there is some pressure on the Red and Green to be able to salvage at least some kind of a positive result against the Indian youngsters.

The Bangladeshi youngsters will need to improve their overall defensive sturdiness to be able to neutralize India’s attacking threat, but they will also need to be clinical in the transitions and set-pieces to finally get to scoring ways in the qualifiers.

A win for the Bengal Tigers can be a huge confidence-booster and at least salvage something respectable for them in the qualifiers, while another loss would be a bitter end to a really poor qualification round.

Team News

Mahesh Gawali should have the same squad that he did in India’s recently loss to Uzbekistan in the U-20 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Bangladesh U-20 should also have a fully fit squad from their last few matches in the qualifiers.

Players to Watchout

Shami Singamayum (India U-20)

India U-20 vs Uzbekistan U-20 Player Ratings: Omang impresses, Prashan disappoints in AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers
Shami will be key for India.

If the India U-20 side are to produce a thrilling performance against the Bengal Tigers in their final qualifier, they need Shami Singamayum to be at his inspired best. The all-time youngest goal-scorer in the history of the Indian Super League (ISL) has also been the Blue Colts’ only goal-scorer in the U-20 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers so far, and he needs to regain his swagger against the Bangladesh youngsters.

Singamayum needs to be a motivating figure in making clever forward runs and carrying the ball into the danger zones, as well as trying to unleash his teammates into the key attacking areas.

He needs to be creative in terms of nailing his accurate final passes to be able to set up chances, and also make clever off-the-ball runs to get into goal-scoring situations and put away chances efficiently to guide his side to a big win.

Md Mahe Khan (Bangladesh U-20)

The Bangladesh U-20 side are yet to score a goal in their 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers, and they need a bit of special work from their striker Md Mahe Khan to be able to change that against the Blue Colts.

Mahe Khan is currently playing in England for their lower league club Rushden & Higham United and he definitely has the experience of playing against challenging foreigners.

The teenager will need to be smart with his movement in the final third to be able to outwit the Indian defenders and get himself into the smart positions.

Khan will, of course, need to be smart with his link-up play and also look to set up promising areas for his fellow attackers – but he’ll need to be particularly ruthless in putting away any chances that come his way for them to get a commanding win.
