The Stakes

India U20

Top three India U20 players to watch out for in AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers

After having secured qualification into the AFC Women’s Asia Cup 2026, it’s now time for the India U20 team to prove that they can gain a berth in the U20 edition too.

Joakim Alexanderson is fortunate enough to have a talented group at his disposal, but he needs to get them perfectly into synch and gain the necessary chemistry to produce a dominant performance.

He will need his players to continue their admirable form after having won three of their matches in 2025 so far, and for the ladies to keep playing innovative, fast-paced attacking football.

A compelling win can definitely raise the confidence level in the camp and raise their belief of winning their group, but a draw or loss would create a really tough remainder of the qualification campaign.

Indonesia U20

The Indonesia U20 team have not qualified for an AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup yet in the past, which means they’re more determined this time to change that.

The Indonesia U20 side is packed with some talented players who are ready to prove their potential in the upcoming qualifiers. Akira Higashiyama will need to be spot on with his tactics and especially the kind of defensive shape that his side will have to maintain to frustrate the Indian side.

He’ll need them to be defensively strong and also clinical on the transitions to get a positive result. A possible win over India can be a huge momentum booster for the Indonesian players and put them in a driving seat for qualification. A crushing loss, however, can destroy the confidence level of the squad and be a major setback.

Team News

Joakim Alexandersson has been able to select a strong core group of players to compete strongly at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers. He is not dealing with any injury issues for any players before this clash.

Indonesia U20 have also brought a healthy and motivated unit for the qualification matches, and he’s not dealing with any injury concerns either.

Players to Watch

Sibani Nongmeikapam (India U20)

Sibani Nongmeikapam is expected to lead the line for India in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers and she needs to be at her ruthless best to drive her side to success.

The 18-year-old striker has already scored three goals for the India U20 women’s team, but it’s time for her to unleash her best performances. Sibani has to be smart with her overall movement and link-up play in the final third, being able to get past markers or defenders with ease.

She needs to work hard to get into the danger areas at the right time, and has to be especially clinical in finishing off chances clinically to uplift her side. If Sibani can be prolific with her finishing qualities, then she can fire up India’s attacking power and make them a real force to be reckoned with.

Estella Loupatty (Indonesia U20)

Estella Loupatty has already gained decent experience at the international stage by making nearly 10 appearances for the Indonesian women’s football team. The Dutch-born striker is going to be a vocal force for the Indonesia U20 women’s team and looks to use her experience and unpredictable playing style to harass the Indian defenders.

Loupatty, who plays for Belgian side Zulte Waregem, is quite an intimidating and mobile forward who loves to use her physical prowess to trouble defenders. She will look to link up smartly with her teammates to help create chances and also get past her marker to finish off chances clinically to amplify her side’s attacking threat.
