India will start their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign against Indonesia.

India U20 women’s team will face a stiff challenge in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers as they look to make it to the main round for the first time since 2006. The young tigresses are grouped with Indonesia, Myanmar and Turkmenistan. They will kick off their campaign with an exciting clash against Indonesia on August 6th, 2025.

The Indian team will be raring to go and book their spot in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup for the fourth time. With a mixed bag of results this year, the team will be hoping to make a mark in the tournament. The Indian team finished as quarter-finalists in 2004, their best finish in the tournament, but have not found much success in recent times.

The last qualifying campaign ended on a heartbreaking note for India as they missed out on a spot in the second round on goal difference. Bitter memories of the last campaign might push the team to breach the first-round barrier this time.

India aim for a strong campaign

Joakim Alexandersson’s side will have to put in a top-notch performance since there is only one spot available for an assured entry into the second round. If India finish second in their group, they will have to rely on others for assistance, as the three best second-placed teams will also qualify for the next round.

The team started this year with a decent performance in the Pink Ladies U20 Youth Cup, where they defeated the likes of Jordan and Hong Kong. In the two friendlies played against Uzbekistan recently, India were able to scrape a draw in the first one.

The second friendly must have done wonders for the team morale, as they thrashed the opponents 4-1. Alexandersson would be keen to maintain the same form and momentum in the high-stakes qualifying campaign.

The first round of the qualifiers starts on August 6, with India taking on Indonesia at 18:00 IST. After a day’s break, the young tigresses will face Turkmenistan in the second group-stage match, beginning at the same time. India will be hoping to be in a position to seal their spot in the second round when they face the hosts, Myanmar, on August 10.
